The Maltepoo

The Maltapoo is a happy go lucky little dog . Good for apartments and homes alike ,large families or just one person .

We raise Maltipoos mainly for three reasons .First and foremost is to get a more sturdy and healthy dog ,less fragile than the smaller Maltese .

Second is Family or Personal Companions (Pets ) ....

Maltipoos make the best pets for families without or with children of all ages . We highly recomend the male for those with children under 5 as males are more apt to love each family member the same and not care who he is with as long as he is with someone .Females tend to choose their favorite person and even though they accept and love each family member ,when their person is there ,that is where they will be found ..

Third ..We raise Maltipoos for Theraphy dogs . The Maltipoos we have placed and gotten feedback so far with people wanting them for theraphy dogs has been all very positive .

Maltipoos tend to not be wary of looking you directly in the eye and holding that exchange of look with you ,therefore they are good for getting the attention of a child that is frightened by a procedure or even a shot  or just a normal check up by a doctor ,the maltipoo ,when trainned properly can and will hold that child and /or adult's attention  with their eyes and warm loving personality they have will reach that child's/adult's  fears and seems to calm them .

Also the maltipoo tends to gravitate to children and the elderly naturally ,so nursing homes and older people benefit greatly from having the Maltipoo visit them often .

Maltipoos love their people ,actually mine think they are people too . Some even react the same as children would to the words /commands  you give ...no seems to hurt their feelings ,some will actually pout ,some whine when the word is used ...but they know what it means and maltipoos (mine anyway ) are not really hard to train .

You have to remember that any training done and learned is as much as you ,yourself put into it ..it is a half and half situation .

The Dog only learns what the Human teaches the correcty way . Both bad behavior and good behavior can be taught very quickly to a Maltipoo .

Most dogs only see they get attention ...so good and bad is not reflected .I have found that showing lots of attention and praise when doing something good and NO attention  at all when doing bad helps the dog to distinquish the difference .

Yelling is not something you would want to do .Saying no in a firm tone of voice and simply ignoring the Maltipoo until you feel they have been punished enough is the best way for them to know they did wrong .

Remember that love is the key to getting the right response from your pet . They love you with no restrictions ,so it has to be returned but not to the point they learn bad behavior .

Snapping , biting , making messes ,all can be taught is wrong with being firm and no always meaning no .

Most Maltipoos find bad behavior most unpleasing to them as much as it is to you .

Puppy classes are given free at most PetSmarts ..Join one with your pet .But remember ,not all react to the classes as well as they react to you . You are their main stay ,their life line ,the caretaker ,the mother -father -playmate and most of all the leader of the Pack .

One day at a time ,one lesson at a time .
